Meet the team behind our mission to educate and raise cancer awareness in South Africa.

Marlene Nortje

CEO – Survivor

Marlene, CEO of Cancervive, is a passionate survivor who blends her personal journey with her professional mission. Her cancer diagnosis at 42 marked a journey of resilience and hope, navigating treatments with courage. Inspired by the camaraderie of riders and a desire to make a difference, Marlene joined Cancervive to spread awareness and support in underserved communities.

Marlene holds a strong vision for reaching all South Africans with Cancervive’s mission. She believes that by uniting communities, empowering individuals, and fostering a culture of support and awareness, Cancervive can make a lasting impact on the lives of all South Africans affected by cancer.

 

Arnold Olivier

Treasurer – Survivor

Arnold Olivier, hailing from Bellville and now residing in Johannesburg, serves as the National Director for the Association of Motorcycle Industry Distributors (AMID). A passionate motorcyclist and DIY enthusiast, Arnold overcame prostate cancer in 2022.  Initially drawn to Cancervive’s proactive approach in 2011 as a sponsor, he continued his involvement as a ride marshal and now holds positions as Treasurer and Board Member, dedicated to sharing his experience for the greater good.

Sheldene Masondo

Internal Co-ordinator – Survivor
Sheldene, a devoted mother, wife, and breast cancer survivor, is an internal coordinator for Cancervive. Born in Rockville, Soweto, she is a passionate advocate for making a difference in people’s lives. Her cancer journey began in 2016, and she credits Cancervive with helping her heal and find purpose. She is a born-again Christian who cherishes meaningful connections with others.

Charmaine Rider

Administrator and Finance Manager – Supporter
Charmaine Rider, Administrator and Financial Manager at Cancervive, has dedicated her career to supporting cancer patients. With over two decades of experience in oncology administration, she has a deep understanding of the importance of early detection and advocacy. Charmaine’s personal experience with cancer, including the loss of her father, drives her passion for helping others. She finds strength and purpose in the Cancervive community, where she can share, care, and change lives.

Belinda Botha

Internal Coordinator Western Cape – Survivor

Belinda Botha bravely faced her breast cancer diagnosis in 2004 with determination. After detecting a lump, she underwent a mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation. Her journey inspired her to join Cancervive in 2017, where she passionately educates others about cancer. Belinda’s experience taught her the importance of self-awareness and supporting others through their unique journeys.

Raynolda Makhutle

Community and THUTO Leader Gauteng – Survivor
Raynolda a multilingual Community Education & Relations Manager, Patients Navigator, and Professional Counselor, is a cervical cancer survivor and passionate advocate for cancer awareness. With a background in banking, teaching, and ministry, Raynolda has overcome multiple health challenges and found purpose in educating communities and supporting others through Cancervive, breaking the silence and stigma surrounding cancer.

Rayghanah Cassiem

Community and THUTO Leader Western Cape – Survivor
Rayghanah, a retired Senior Retirement Fund Administrator, is a breast cancer survivor and passionate advocate for cancer awareness. Born in District Six, Cape Town, she is a wife, mother, and grandmother who loves hiking, dragon boat paddling, and running. Rayghanah is a Cancer Buddy and Community Development & Relations Manager for Cancervive Western Cape, inspiring others with her resilience and hope.

Debbie Baillie

Team Support Manager – Supporter
Debbie, a dedicated Information Systems Security Specialist, is a passionate sportswoman, avid traveller, and motorbike enthusiast. Born in Zimbabwe and raised in Cape Town, she joined the SA Navy in 1983. Debbie found purpose with Cancervive, an NPO supporting cancer survivors, after losing her father to cancer. Through Cancervive, she advocates for awareness and supports those affected by cancer.

Henda van Rensburg

Community Support Program Coordinator and Social worker – Survivor
Henda, hails from Polokwane and now lives in Centurion. As a social worker and survivor of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, she is passionate about empowering others to realize their potential. After being wrongly diagnosed and undergoing treatment, she discovered her strength and resilience. Henda joined Cancervive in 2023, finding a platform to share her story and inspire others.

Itumeleng Letoaba

Thuto Ambassador – Survivor

Itumeleng, a resilient breast cancer survivor, was born in Johannesburg and currently resides in Polokwane. As an office assistant and former stock controller, she excels in connecting with people and making a difference in their lives. Her passions include dancing, physical fitness, and advocating for cancer awareness, inspired by her own journey and desire to break the stigma surrounding cancer.

Sonja van der Merwe

Cancervive Bikers Community and Rider Support – Survivor
Sonja, based in Meyerton, serves as a representative for a major building supply company. Beyond her professional pursuits, she’s an avid cyclist and motorcyclist. As a breast cancer survivor and single mother, Sonja drew strength from her daughter’s unwavering support. Joining Cancervive, she’s dedicated to making a positive impact on others’ lives and has discovered a supportive community.

Reetsang Setou

Cancervive Bikers Community Ambassador Lead – Supporter
Reetsang, born and raised in Dobsonville, Soweto, is a former librarian turned entrepreneur with a passion for charity and helping others. She dedicates her time to making a positive impact, particularly in her village in North West province. Introduced to Cancervive through a supporter, she has found an extended family and a platform to grow, learn, and make a difference in the lives of others.

Elfrieda Engels

Cancervive Bikers Community Ambassador West Coast – Survivor

Elfrieda, an administrative manager from Vredenburg, embodies resilience as a cancer survivor and fervent advocate for cancer awareness. Conquering two battles with cancer, she found her voice and purpose when she joined Cancervive in 2019, using the platform to inspire others and effect change. Elfrieda treasures family, respect, and balance, advocating for those in need and standing up for justice.

Lorraine du Toit

Team Support Western Cape – Survivor

Lorraine was born in Bellville, Cape Town, where she grew up and worked. She’s been married for 42 years, living with her husband on their farm in Bredasdorp, where she’s a third-generation farmer. She cherishes time with her loved ones, enjoys camping and travel, and is a passionate people person. Lorraine is a breast cancer survivor and joined Cancervive in 2013. She finds inspiration in the group’s camaraderie and shared purpose.

Lientjie van Niekerk

Thuto and IT Liaison – Supporter

Lientjie van Niekerk is the Technical Manager at Thuto, where she is dedicated to ensuring that cancer education reaches those who need it most. Inspired by the invaluable work of Cancervive, Lientjie is focused on enhancing the Thuto Cancer Chatbot to extend its reach to thousands more. Alongside her professional role, she is pursuing an art counselling course to further support emotional health and well-being. An avid motorbike rider, Lientjie completed her first Cancervive Flagship Ride last year. She is passionate about spreading the message that early detection can save lives.

Siphephile Masondo

Gauteng – Set-up Coordinator & Thuto Ambassador

Siphephile Masondo has recently been officially appointed as Set-up Coordinator and Thuto Ambassador at Cancervive. A young and dynamic individual, Siphephile’s journey with cancer began at a young age when his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. While new to this official role, he is no stranger to Cancervive, having been part of the set-up team for the past three years. Siphephile’s personal connection to cancer fuels his dedication to supporting and educating others through Cancervive’s initiatives.

Adrie Smit

Survivor

Adrie Smit is from Potchefstroom in the North West. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. It is a privilege for her to be part of the 2025 CANCERVIVE team, where she aims to engage with the community and raise awareness that cancer is not a death sentence. She is committed to letting others know that there is life after cancer.

Carla Oliver

Supporter

Carla currently calls Klerksdorp home. As an end-of-life facilitator her passions include supporting cancer patients and making a positive impact. A devoted Christian, she cherishes time with her grandson and finds joy in nature, trees, and wildlife. Carla is a dedicated Cancervive supporter, inspired by its mission and committed to making a difference in peoples’ lives.

Charlene Vieira

Supporter

Charlene has been a hairstylist for over 35 years and throughout her career, she has had the privilege of hearing countless stories from clients and their loved ones affected by cancer. Recently, two of her own family members were impacted, which reignited her passion to get involved with Cancervive. Charlene was first introduced to the organisation through friends and has attended several of their fundraisers. She is especially passionate about cancer education and looks forward to contributing her time and energy to raise awareness and educate others wherever she can.

Charmainé Duvenhage

Survivor

Charmainé Duvenhage is a cancer survivor who is committed to inspiring others by sharing her story and letting them know that there is always hope. Having undergone a double mastectomy, Charmainé knows firsthand the emotional and physical challenges that come with a cancer diagnosis. Through her journey, she has found strength and resilience, and she now aims to offer support and encouragement to others facing similar battles. Charmainé’s mission is to show others that, despite the hardships, life after cancer can be fulfilling and hopeful.

Chelton Keppler

Supporter

Chelton, a senior manager and lover of the outdoors, became a dedicated supporter of Cancervive to combat cancer. Motivated by the resilience of cancer fighters, he strives to provide empathy, encouragement, and resources for a meaningful impact. Through his involvement, Chelton gains profound insight into the struggles of those touched by cancer and recognizes the invaluable role of supportive communities.

Cynthia Lawler

Survivor

Cynthia was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012, following her first mammogram at the age of 58. After undergoing chemotherapy and radiation, she has been in remission ever since. Her personal experience with cancer has given her a deep understanding of the challenges faced by those affected by the disease. Passionate about supporting others on their journey, Cynthia is dedicated to raising awareness and providing hope to those fighting cancer.

Damion Bracks

Supporter

Damion Bracks is 26 years old. His reason for joining Cancervive is to be part of something bigger, as he believes this is more than just volunteering—it’s being part of a movement. A movement that seeks to provide hope, comfort, and support to those affected by cancer. By joining Cancervive, Damion is able to be part of a community dedicated to making a difference, while also having the opportunity to meet like-minded individuals, develop new skills, and be part of something truly special.

Denise Reddy

Survivor

Denise Reddy, 59, hails from Kempton Park, where she lives with her husband. A mother of two adult children and a proud grandmother, Denise is a two-time breast cancer survivor. She is passionate about advocating for cancer awareness, giving a voice to those who cannot speak for themselves, and offering hope to those who have lost it. Denise is committed to supporting the advancement of better, faster, and less invasive treatments for all those affected by cancer.

Dirk le Grange

Survivor

Dirk is the Head of Market Development for Africa at Absa Vehicle Finance. A sports enthusiast and traveler, Dirk is a survivor of Stage 4 follicular lymphoma and bone marrow cancer. After multiple rounds of chemo, radiation, and a bone marrow transplant, he joined Cancervive inspired by Janie du Plessis’ story. Dirk shares his journey to raise awareness and support others.

Frieda Henning

Founder and Survivor

Frieda, a cancer survivor and entrepreneur, co-founded Cancervive to raise awareness about “Shy Cancers”. Diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast Cancer at 49, Frieda underwent treatment while opening a health food business and learning to ride a motorcycle. She headed Journey of Hope for 3 years, focusing on Breast Cancer Awareness, before joining Cancervive as a founder member and CEO.

Indrin Reddy

Supporter

Indrin Reddy’s journey with cancer began in September 2019 when his wife was diagnosed. Since then, he has been dedicated to caring for her and supporting her through every step of her journey. Driven by his personal experience, Indrin is passionate about offering support to cancer patients, helping them navigate their own journeys with care, compassion, and understanding. His commitment to supporting others facing similar challenges continues to fuel his desire to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients.

Lawrence Herbert

Survivor

Lawrence Herbert was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in May 2024 and completed six months of chemotherapy, which ended in January 2025. His reason for becoming involved with Cancervive is to raise awareness about cancer while also challenging himself in the firm belief that he is not defined by his diagnosis. Lawrence is determined to take ownership of his condition and pave his own survival journey ahead, inspiring others along the way. Through his involvement, he hopes to contribute to the fight against cancer and offer hope to those facing similar challenges.

Leandri Meiring-Botha

Supporter

Leandri Meiring-Botha, a Capetonian is an Examiner of Motor Vehicles with a passion for woodworking. After her mother’s cancer diagnosis, Leandri found purpose in supporting Cancervive, hoping to help others navigate similar challenges. Through her involvement, she has learned patience and formed meaningful friendships within the Cancervive community.

Lebo Ramphisa

Survivor

Lebo, an Asset Finance Specialist from Pretoria, is a passionate community advocate and breast cancer survivor. Diagnosed at 28, she underwent treatment and celebrates five years of cancer-free living. Joining Cancervive, Lebo found a supportive family and purpose, dedicated to raising awareness and promoting early detection, dispelling myths and inspiring hope and love in communities.

Mariska South

Supporter
Mariska, a seasoned veteran of the travel industry with 27 years of expertise, now channels her time and skills into the noble cause of Cancervive. An avid adventurer, she delights in discovering new destinations and cultures alongside her family. Inspired by Cancervive’s impactful mission, she eagerly joined the community, motivated by their tireless efforts in raising cancer awareness and offering support to those in need.

Miranda Esau

Survivor

Mirenda from Wattville near Benoni, is a dedicated volunteer and involved with the South African Girl Guides. She was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma, a form of eye cancer at age 10. Mirenda overcame fear, finding freedom and strength through Cancervive. Mirenda now embraces her scars with gratitude, sharing her story to raise awareness and promote early detection.

Motlatsi Palathan

Supporter

Motlatsi is a compassionate individual who joined Cancervive in 2025, driven by a deep desire to both educate and connect with those affected by cancer. Passionate about offering love, care, and support to cancer patients, she is dedicated to making a positive difference in their lives. Motlatsi has embraced her new Cancervive family, and her commitment to helping others continues to grow as she works to provide comfort and encouragement to those in need.

Nandi Marubelela

Board Member – Supporter

Nandi Marubelela joined Cancervive in 2022 and currently serves as a dedicated board member. She is a founding director of LB Holdings and heads Strategic Business Development & Sustainability for SADC at Siemens Healthcare. With over 19 years’ experience, her expertise spans business strategy, operations, and public-private partnerships across Africa. Nandi holds qualifications in Business Communications, Agile Strategic Leadership (Duke), and Foundation Management (GIBS), and is completing an MBA in Healthcare Management. She contributed to the 2019 WHO/World Economic Forum paper on healthcare in Africa. Nandi has a deep passion for cancer education and awareness and strongly believes in the power of early detection to save lives.

Nolukhanyo Bixa

Survivor

Born and raised in Johannesburg, Nolukhanyo is passionate about community projects, especially supporting young girls in challenging situations and addressing unemployment in her township. Diagnosed during the COVID-19 pandemic, her journey with cancer was transformative, supported by faith and family. Inspired by the impactful work of the Cancervive community, she now advocates for cancer awareness, embracing each day with gratitude and empathy.

Nonhlanhla Nzimande

Supporter

Nonhlanhla is a compassionate individual who thrives on connecting with others and spreading positivity. Passionate about supporting those affected by cancer, she feels called to be a source of love and encouragement. Inspired by a mammogram test in November 2024, which sparked a deeper interest in cancer awareness, Nonhlanhla is determined to make a difference. With a genuine belief in the goodness of people, she is dedicated to bringing joy and hope to others.

Samantha Baxter

Survivor

Samantha Baxter was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer in 2023. Despite the challenges of her diagnosis, she emerged as a survivor, determined to overcome the hurdles that came her way.

Sandile Nkosi

Supporter

Sandile Nkosi found purpose in educating others about cancer awareness after losing his mother to the disease. His commitment to Cancervive stems from a deep-seated belief in the power of early detection to save lives. Through his efforts, Sandile aims to educate not only his community but also audiences beyond, emphasising the critical importance of awareness and timely intervention in combating cancer.

Sanette Gouws

Supporter

Sanette has seen firsthand the devastating impact of cancer, having lost both her parents, as well as family and friends, to the disease. This has shaped her perspective on life’s fragility, and even with so much personal experience, she knows how fear and uncertainty can cloud judgment. As an avid adventure rider, she often travels to rural areas where access to healthcare and information is limited. Through Cancervive, she wants to help change that—bringing cancer education and awareness to the people who need it most.

Sharney Blackway

Survivor

Sharney Blackway is a 30-year-old two-time breast cancer survivor. Diagnosed at 28 with triple-negative breast cancer, her journey took an unexpected turn when the disease metastasised to her brain just five weeks after a clear report following a year of treatments. Despite many losses, Sharney has found a new purpose. She is dedicated to educating, advocating, and inspiring fellow warriors, encouraging them to keep fighting in the face of adversity.

Sibongiseni Nkosi

Survivor

Bobo joined Cancervive with a mission to save lives. He believes that knowing your body is key to early detection. When something feels wrong, he encourages others not to be shy or dismissive—act on it. “Knowledge is power,” he says. Had he known what he does now, he believes he could have avoided becoming a stage 4 colon cancer victim. Bobo is passionate about spreading the message that cancer can be beaten and is not a death sentence, urging others to fight through information.

Thami Tshabalala

Survivor

Thami, an admin clerk hailing from Soweto, embodies curiosity and adventure, constantly seeking new knowledge and exploring South Africa’s diverse landscapes. Joining Cancervive, he passionately shares his journey to raise cancer awareness, finding solace in supporting others and gaining confidence through sharing experiences. His dedication to offering support to those in need reflects his compassionate spirit and commitment to making a difference.

Victoria Mudau

Survivor

As a stage 4 breast cancer survivor, Victoria, a resilient construction business owner from Daveyton, emanates a profound sense of purpose in aiding others. Having triumphed over chemotherapy and radiation, she now fervently advocates hope and awareness. Through Cancervive, Victoria finds solace, sisterhood, and a potent platform to empower fellow survivors. Her narrative ignites courage, guiding others through their cancer odyssey with enduring strength and resilience.

Wilma Labuschagne

Survivor

Wilma Labuschagne, a breast cancer survivor, was inspired to join Cancervive due to her personal journey and a deep desire to raise awareness about the importance of early detection. After undergoing a mastectomy, lymph node removal, and chemotherapy, Wilma is now in remission. Her experience has ignited a passion for educating the public, as she firmly believes that early diagnosis is crucial and can ultimately save lives. Through her involvement with Cancervive, she hopes to empower others with the knowledge to take charge of their health.

Wilma Maritz

Survivor

Wilma Maritz a resilient farmer from Vryburg, raised near Tosca, Northwest, is passionate about people and cultures. A stage 3 breast cancer survivor, she underwent a double mastectomy and chemotherapy. Wilma is dedicated to raising awareness for early detection and inspiring others with her story of hope and resilience, proving that cancer is just a chapter, not the whole story.
